Cities: Reimagining the Urban by Ash Amin and Nigel Thrift is one of our Interboro’s favorite books. It’s one of the best “redescriptions” of the urban it has read. Never cynical, never nostalgic, Amin and Thrift identify (as well as reflect upon) new modes of urbanity in a way that offers a refreshing alternative to the “Geography of Nowhere” discourse. The book is almost unbelievably expansive, and while some might accuse Amin and Thrift of throwing shit at the wall with the hope that some will stick, Interboro rather appreciates their efforts to, say, make a place for the hand in urban theory. The breath of the book, along with its array of unusual examples reminds Interboro that urbanism is less a discipline than a lens through which to read the world. Very poetic. Very fresh. Highly recommended.
